Çeşme is a holiday tourist resort town on the coast of the Aegean Sea situated in the Çeşme District of the Izmir Province in Turkey. The idyllic holiday resort of Çeşme is located 85 kilometers west of İzmir connected to this largest metropolitan center of the Turkish Aegean region by a six-lane highway. The charms of Çeşme and its surrounding area were first discovered by affluent Turks from Izmir who built secondary holiday homes there years ago. These holiday homes afforded these more fortunate Turks with easy access to the beautiful beaches in the area where they could relax and unwind from the stresses inherant in living a major metropolitan area like Izmir.
The area surrounding Çeşme has numerous other holiday villages with beautiful beaches and picturesque harbours such as Alaçatı, where tourism is an equally important facet of the economy as well as four other villages. Ildırı on the coast towards the north, which is notable for being the location of ancient Erythrae, and three others which are more in the background, in terms both of their geographical location and reknown: Germiyan, Karaköy and Ovacık. Alaçatı is a unique Aegean town on the western coast of İzmir Province, which has been famous for its traditional architecture, vineyards and windmills for over 150 years. It has now made its name in the world of windsurfing with its crystal clear blue waters, consistent and steady winds and excellent friendly hospitality. Alaçatı is situated only 10 kilometers or 6 miles from Çeşme or basically about 15 minutes away by car. The Greek Island of Chios, known for its unique mastic gum and its medieval villages. The 11th century monastery of Nea Moni, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is also located on the island. Chios Island is easily accessible by ferry from Çeşme.
